Irish Startup Wins Big in Europe
EnergyElephant wins Public Award at Innopitch and is a runner-up at the European Young Innovator of the Year 2015.
It was an exciting few days for European startups in Brussels last week. Not only did the temperatures touch 38 Deg C (100 Deg F for our American friends), making pitching tough going for all the shortlisted start-ups vying to become European Young Innovator of the year, but some of the global superstars in the tech world converged to hear the final 6 shortlisted startups pitch for European Young Innovator 2015. The speakers included John Biggs (Techcrunch), Günther Oettinger (European Commissioner for Digital Economy), Carlos Eduardo Espinal (Seedcamp), Fadi Bishara (BlackBox) and Corrado Tomassoni (Paypal) who all contributed strongly to how the current crop of European startup talent can compete and beat their Silicon Valley rivals.
Representing Ireland, EnergyElephant were delighted to come runner-up, also scooping the prestigious Public Award for their pitch and technology service that helps bring transparency to energy bills. They also gained some great feedback from John Biggs of Techcrunch, who gave them advice into how the technology could be used to disrupt the US markets, scaling overseas and how to increase user traction. Other startup investors gave them insights into growth hacking and how they could grow into other interesting markets.
Speaking after the event cofounders Joseph Borza and Eoin Ó Fearghail were shocked with their win.
"There was such a high level of competition we were amazed to win the Public Award and come runnerup in the European Young Innovator 2015. We were competing against some amazing startups including drones that clean solar panels, exoskeleton robots that help recovering patients, online education platforms that teach coding and machine learning databases that open markets."
"Congratulations to Raffaela Rein of German startup CareerFoundry, who scooped the overall prize of European Young Innovator 2015. They've a great service for filling the much needed digital skills jobs across Europe with currently unemployed young people by training them up quickly in the sector."
As part of the prize, EnergyElephant have been invited on the 2015 Innotour USA, where they will get to meet investors, entrepreneurs and successful startups from across the US as well as visiting innovative accelerator programs. This along with supports on accessing European funding for startups will help drive the company forward and hopefully see it succeed on a much wider scale in the very near future.
