Home Energy Prices to Rise in October!

Bord Gáis has applied to the Regulator for a 7.54% rise in its residential gas prices from this October.

In a statement this afternoon, the Energy Regulator said it has begun a public consultation on the matter and will make its decision known in late August. The Regulator said that Bord Gáis had requested the rise due to higher gas commodity costs and network tariffs.

It noted significant gas price rises across many EU countries over the last two years and it said the latest Eurostat information shows that Ireland's residential gas prices are generally lower that the EU average.

Below it can be seen that Irish residential gas prices are in fact average for Europe and any increase will put them into the highest residential gas prices in Europe.
