Lent Energy Saving Tip Day 30 - #Ecotourism
How often do you take holidays and do you consider the energy consumption and carbon emissions from your trips?
The answer is usually "No" so don't feel too guilty about it. If you do want to make a changes here are some easy tips.
First, try holiday at home as often as possible. It's part of the think global, act local theme and you'd be surprised what is right on your doorstep sometimes.
How are you getting to your destination and can you use low energy/low carbon transport. If flying can you choose an airline with more energy efficient planes and are they full?
Once there how are you getting around? Are you using public transport? If renting a car go for the most energy efficient vehicle available as this will save on your fuel costs too. Want to go further, look at having a cycling holiday and experience the culture of areas first hand and not via a motorway.
Use eco hotels and hotels with a sustainability policy, these usually have very energy efficient buildings and can be more comfortable too. The last thing you want is a room that is too hot or too cold.
Finally, look to eat in locally sourced restaurants and those with green credentials.
Finally, send us a post card and let us know how you get on. We love to hear from our friends and fans.
