More bad news for households in Ireland.
Electric Ireland (formerly ESB), which supplies electricity and natural gas to domestic customers, announced on Friday it is increasing its electricity charges by almost 6% from October. This will add around €50 a year to the average household electricity bill. It is also increasing natural gas supply charges to householders by 8.5%, in line with the price rise for Bord Gais.
The Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) will also increase the PSO levy on all electricity bills from the 1st October 2012 to 30th September 2013 as follows:
- Domestic customers - €2.56/customer/month.
- Small commercial customers - €7.89/customer/month
- Medium and large customers - €1.12/kVA/month
