Project overview

With approximately 10,000 employees across 200 locations in the Republic of Ireland (ROI), Northern Ireland (NI), and Great Britain (GB), the Bank of Ireland Group (BoI) continues to invest in improving operational energy performance and long-term decarbonization across its vast portfolio of buildings and assets.

To support these objectives, BoI's Engineering department uses EnergyElephant's cloud-based system to centralize energy and carbon data across the Group's multi-site estate.

The software is used by the team to monitor performance, identify opportunities, support reporting processes, and prioritize energy efficiency and infrastructure improvement projects.

Recent projects include:

Upgrading old fluorescent light fittings to LED technology across all retail branches and administration buildings.

Installing a new 480 kW heat pump at the Group's IT and Operations Centre in Cabinteely, Co. Dublin to reduce reliance on gas boilers.

A 100 kWp solar PV addition at the Cabinteely campus to increase self-generated, renewable electricity supply to 200 kWp.

Transitioning branch heating systems from kerosene to HVO.

Installing EV charging infrastructure at administration buildings.

Deploying heat pump systems at key operational facilities.

Expanding onsite solar PV generation capacity at selected locations.

The challenge

With numerous electricity, gas, and oil bills coming in across such a large and geographically distributed building portfolio, BoI required a practical and scalable system to support:

Multi-country / currency utility data management.

Bill validation and maximum import capacity reviews.

Energy performance monitoring.

Carbon and ESG-related reporting.

Analysis of operational trends across multiple assets.

Collaboration between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Having a single, centralised view of our operational data supports day-to-day decision-making and helps teams engage more effectively with energy management activities across the organisation.
